So the market isn't perfect at the moment but people still want to be able to move house.
Follow these tips from Kent Estate Agencies and it could be the difference between a buyer choosing your home or someone else's.
Lead your prospective buyer up a garden path you're proud of. The first thing any buyer will see is the outside of your house so make sure it looks good. Pretty plants instead of overgrown thistle bushes, a nicely painted front door that hasn't been done by the kids and tidy kerb will help make sure their first impression is the right one.
When you walk into a supermarket, you can smell freshly baked bread (whether it's an artificial smell pumped out of the air conditioners is a different matter), the point is, it makes you hungry.
Get your prospective buyers hungry by making your house smell delectable with fresh flowers - stale cigarette smoke and cat litter won't help.
Put your family photos away and neutralise your decoration by removing anything that is unique to your own taste (that would include rugs in the shape of Elvis's head and your collection of cat memorabilia.)
It may sound obvious but tidy away clutter in your house and the garden so people get an accurate picture of how big or small you house is.
Don't forget to make your beds in the rush.
Side lamps instead of overhead lights give a much softer and cosier feel to a room so try to avoid harsh lighting if you can. You can never underestimate the value of cushions either.
Make sure your bathroom and kitchen is gleaming. Keep your display of beauty products and shampoos to the bare minimum.
If you have an open fire make use of it. You want to show off all the unique features in your house as best you can.
Not only do they smell good but flowers are always a welcomed gesture, even just as an admirer, flowers are always well received. Put them in a nice vase in the hallway or on the kitchen table.
Don't forget to vacuum.
Try to not be at home when someone views your house, that way the people looking around can feel comfortable and take their time to admire all your hard work.
